You know that time of year when your winter jacket stays at home, the warm weather creeps up, every tree is blooming, and at last winter is gone til next year? This week has been a little something like that. We've had wonderful weather and it has made experiencing the Czech so great.
Each day I discover new things about Olomouc, czech culture, and a new place to get ice cream!
This past weekend we had the opportunity to go back to Prague, visit the Prague Castle, Jewish Quarter, and take a day trip to Dresden Germany.
After a long march through Prague, Jan and Martin our fearless Czech leaders, led us to Prague Castle. The castle is situated on a hill overlooking the burnt orange rooftops of the city. Within the castle we were given a tour of the churches, and watched the changing of the guard.
In Dresden, Germany I went to an art gallery featuring a few works of Titian, Rembrandt, and Raphael. We also climbed the tower of the church in the main center and took in a view of Dresden.
At the Jewish quarter we went into the synagogue that had been turned into memorial. 80,000 names were written on the walls commemorating the Moravian and Bohemian Holocaust victims. We walked around the Old Jewish Cemetery. In the Jewish faith they believe that once a body is buried it stays there forever. because Jews were not allowed to be buried outside the Jewish ghetto, many were buried on top of one another.
Here's a look:
